Packing Scrubber / Packed Bed Scrubber
High-efficiency wet scrubbing for acid gas, solvent vapour and odour removal
What Is a Packing Scrubber?
A packing scrubber (also called a packed bed scrubber or packed tower scrubber) is a wet gas-absorption system in which dirty gas passes upward through a bed of packing media while scrubbing liquid flows downward. The counter-current contact between liquid and gas removes acid gases, solvent vapours, ammonia and odorous compounds with high efficiency. It is the go-to solution for HCl, SO₂, NH₃, HF and VOC removal in chemical, plastics, textile and metal-surface-treatment facilities.
MDSJ Process (DUCON brand) designs and manufactures packing scrubbers with custom packing type, tower diameter, height and material selection, and delivers turnkey installation.
How It Works
Process gas enters at the bottom of the packed column. As it rises through the packing bed (pall rings, Raschig rings or structured packing), the scrubbing liquid flowing downward over the high-surface-area media absorbs the target pollutants. Clean gas exits at the top; spent liquid returns to a recirculation tank where pH and concentration are controlled before re-use or disposal.
Key Advantages
- Up to 99 % gas removal efficiency
- Flexible for both acid and alkaline gases (pH-controlled reagent)
- Low pressure drop, low operating cost
- PP, FRP or 316L stainless steel construction options
- Continuous operation with recirculation pump + nozzle system
- Scalable design for small to very large gas volumes
